Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will devise and implement strategies to obtain the necessary consents for the development of on shore based wind development opportunities

Provide planning feasibility brief on identified wind turbine development opportunities

Provide full town and country planning appraisal on secured opportunities throughout the UK with regards sites in development, to undertake the following activities
a. Screening request
b. Scoping report - submissions, liaison and agreement
c. To work with the Development Manager to agree the scope and scale of studies to be included within any Environmental Impact Assessment to support a planning application
d. To prepare/compile a planning application - including the appropriate EIA planning documentation
e. Submission and post-submission planning application management/liaison etc
f. Planning decision appraisal
g. Planning appeal, advice and preparation/management as appropriate
h. Post consent - to administer all planning conditions and their discharge
i. S 106/ s 75 agreement management

To lead / manage / maintain overall relationship with LPAs and equivalent authorities / other authorities

Provide an overall appraisal of the industry in light of developments in planning law and planning decisions and advice as appropriate

Highlight the most appropriate search areas for wind development drawing on your knowledge and understanding of the demands of wind development, planning legislation.

Advise on site development potential, likelihood of success and significant development issues.

Maintain a high level awareness of the Wind energy market providing insight and predictions as to changing planning legislative, commercial and business trends that will affect the business model and future business.

Qualifications/Experience

• Degree educated in a relevant discipline, most likely in a technical or business related subject
• The candidate should be a member of or eligible for membership of the RTPI.
• Sound and demonstrative knowledge of the UK wind energy sector, ideally with an in-depth knowledge of the development process.
• Town planner with demonstrable record for achieving planning success.
• Proven record of working planning appeals through the appeals process to successful outcome.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the legislative planning, environmental and grid connection issues surrounding wind development.
• Commercial awareness of market trends including land lease options and power purchase agreements, training can be given on these areas if required
• Excellent communication and relationship building skills at senior management and board level
• Strong project and process management skills
• Strong team player with a competitive nature and the resilience and tenacity to close deals
• Able to work on own initiative without supervision, influence key people to affect business direction and decisions
