Due to their continued success and expansion they now have an urgent requirement for a Senior Engineer in their Hydro Energy division.

The succesful applicant will act as lead designer on small and medium sized Hydro Generation projects, or as part of a project team on major commissions. You will be responsible for planning and managing the delivery of the design elements of the project, (including time and cost) either alone or through multi discipline projects. You will ideally have worked on projects sizes of 2 - 3 turbines and up to 100kw in power. You will have been involved in Electrical synchronisation, river flow and have good electrical knowledge and commissioning experience.

Responsibilities

To assist the principle engineer with client liaison and ensure that the project meets the clients objectives and requirements and to act as a key client contact for project delivery on a daily basis.

To ensure all technical content of all technical work is carried out correctly and in accordance with agreed timescales and budgets.

To be able to take on significant elements of the detailed design personally.
To provide technical guidance and training to junior staff and to assist where practicable in the training and development of staff.

To participate in the presentation / preparation of bids/ proposals as required estimating timescales and costs for proposed works.

To act as project manager on small to medium sized / risk projects and assist with the management of teams for a particular programme of work with a view to develop financial and project management skills.

Skills and Experience

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent within Energy Engineering or related discipline.

Minimum of 5 years direct energy experience.

Have detailed knowledge and / or experience of the management of Hydro Generation projects both financially and technically.

Demonstration able experience in initial site identification including flow head and energy yield analysis.

Undertake project screening for viability as well as have experience in the applicable legislative and license requirements with regards to water abstraction.

Feasibility studies on pump storage and run of river projects to include all aspects of system outline design and specifications.

Experience in the production of feasibility reports to include base CAPEX and payback calculations on investment utilizing current renewable energy support mechanisms.

Review of hydrology data and production of hydro generation estimates.

Review and site investigation of geotechnical properties and associated civil works.

Experience of minor civils design including penstocks / inlet works / powerhouse etc.

Experience of electrical design, network planning and connection to grid.

Experience in turbine selection matching system requirements including the duty calculations and working with specialist turbine suppliers.

Demonstration able experience in hydro energy generation from sub 100kW to 1MW including the commercial understanding of the project lifecycle and consultants various roles within that lifecycle.

Familiarity with software packages such as MS.

Have appropriate experience in design, contract and tender preparation, tender assessment, construction supervision and administration with regards to Hydro generation projects.
