Job Description:

Our Client is seeking a Marine Development Engineer to manage the technical and project development elements of the Marine Strategy. The Marine Development Engineer will report into the Head of Renewables Policy who is responsible for the overall Marine Business. The jobholder will co-ordinate the outputs of other internal and external specialists to lead the development of marine projects from concept to delivery The jobholder will work closely with commercial, legal, investment strategy, policy, environmental, construction and technical teams co-ordinating outputs to maintain focus on delivery of the strategy.
Duties:

• Manage the technology identification process and appraise potential new projects from a technical, political, commercial and risk perspective working closely with the investment and business planning team
• Manage detailed technical due diligence on potential technology investments and delivery projects ensuring that the scopes and costs are aligned with the investment strategy.
• Manage the identification of technical risk and ensure that project risks are assessed and addressed in line with the Strategy.
• Financial management including budgeting, forecasting, invoicing and cost control
• Project financial modelling and updating any relevant changes to maximise project value and minimise investment risk
• Programming and scheduling of key activities and timely delivery of project milestones
• Tendering, appointment, instruction and effective management of consultants and co ordination of sub consultants
• Assistance with the preparation and presentation of investment cases for Management approval
• Timely and thorough completion of monthly reports, reviews and actions
• Management of Health and Safety reviews of technologies and organisations reviewing issues relating to offshore standards and legislation.
• Liaise and coordinate with external suppliers and contractors to ensure delivery specifications are met; providing inputs on appropriate tender assessments
• Instruct and supervise Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) review on technologies and manage the consideration of challenges and suspected infringements on relevant technologies.
• Assist legal and commercial teams in negotiation of contracts.
• Project Management of site investigation activities in line with the Marine Strategy to support the delivery of 1 - 100 MW marine sites.
• Manage the interaction with academia through research programmes to maximise benefit of UK research programmes for marine activities.

Experience:

• Working towards a professional Engineering Qualification
• Demonstrate competence in the complete set of skills relating to the development and delivery of marine projects
• Experience and understanding of technical due diligence for investment and delivery of projects in developing technologies
• Analyse complex and novel technical problems over a wide variety of disciplines, providing creative solutions when required
• Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate initiative with limited support from colleagues
• Ability to manage input from peers and manage the activities of others.
• Flexibility and adaptability to demonstrate a wide range of technical, commercial, and interpersonal skills
• Tenacity, persistence and determination to succeed
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive negotiations, lead others and contribute a senior level
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills. Ability to present at industry events.
• Excellent personal organisation and time management skills with self-discipline to manage a considerable workload.
• Ability to identify and source external resources and skills to appropriate project delivery requirements
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a dynamic environment with changing Priorities.
Criteria:
• Degree-qualified in a technical or environmental related discipline
• Relevant experience in industry
