Role Description
The Development Manager will provide leadership in a range of project development activities from site selection and evaluation, through project design and environmental assessment, submission of consent applications and into pre-construction.
The duties of the Development Manager focus on the planning and management of projects at all stages of project development, with the purpose to achieve satisfactory consents & rights to construct each project. The Development Manager will be required to lead project teams, containing both internal and external staff, with a need to motivate and guide to achieve successful and efficient project delivery.
The Development Manager will require to have an understanding of how the environmental, technical and commercial aspects of each project interact.
The Development Manager will be required to liaise and negotiate with landowners, planning authorities, statutory consultees, stakeholder groups and the public.
Roles & Responsibilities
The Development Manager will be responsible for the following areas of work for wind power projects:
- Planning and management of projects at all stages of project development from site evaluation through to pre-construction;
- Managing planning applications;
- Co-ordinating with the in-house development team to ensure resources are available and applied to support the efficient development of projects;
- Managing environmental, technical and commercial interactions;
- Liaising and negotiating with landowners on both development sites and access routes;
- Consulting with planning authorities, statutory consultees, stakeholder groups and the wider public, including presentations at public meetings and effective co-ordination of community relations;
- Management of external consultants – technical and environmental;
- Input to the project design process as part of the project design team, including technology selection and outline engineering designs;
- Review and approval of scoping reports, draft EIA reports and ES chapters;
- Managing and reporting on project risks;
- Budget management & reporting;
- Reporting on project progress, both through written status reports and presentations at project meetings.
Personal attributes
The team needs a candidate who can communicate and work with a small but efficient team structure. Support is likely to come from other team members and consultants but the candidate must be able to work in a compact team environment.
This role is working with a multi disciplinary team with peer to peer working. It is essential that the candidate is a team player who can work easily with different disciplines, take on new ones and interact well with team members both in the UK and Europe. Travel is an essential part of the job and the candidate must be aware that travel to UK and Europe is part of the role. The model is to be a full team player, self-starter and contributor of ideas and direction.
